We study the spontaneous formation of vortices during the superfluid condensation in a trapped fermionic gas subjected to a rapid thermal quench via evaporative cooling. Our work is based on the numerical solution of the time-dependent crossover Ginzburg-Landau equation coupled to the heat diffusion equation. We quantify the evolution of condensate density and vortex length as a function of a crossover phase parameter from BCS to BEC. Vortices in Superfluid Fermi Gases through the BEC to BCS Crossover

We have analyzed a single vortex at T=0 in a 3D superfluid atomic Fermi gas across a Feshbach resonance. On the BCS side, the order parameter varies on two scales: k{sub F}{sup -1} and the coherence length {xi}, while only variation on the scale of {xi} is seen away from the BCS limit. The circulating current has a peak value j{sub max} which is a nonmonotonic function of 1/k{sub F}a{sub s} implying a maximum critical velocity {approx}v{sub F} at unitarity. We study the Bogoliubov collective excitations of harmonically trapped superfluid Fermi gases in the crossover from Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) superfluid to Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) beyond Thomas-Fermi (TF) limit. Starting from a generalized Gross-Pitaevskii equation and an equation of state valid for the whole crossover, we derive Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) equations for low-lying collective modes at zero temperature. We use a Fetter-like variational ground state wave function to remove the noncontinuity of slope at the boundary of condensate, which appears in the TF limit. Analytical expressions of collective excitations for trapped superfluid Fermi gases in a BCS-BEC crossover

We investigate the collective excitations of a harmonically trapped superfluid Fermi gas at varying coupling strengths across a BCS-BEC crossover. Using a hydrodynamic approach, we solve analytically the eigenvalue problem of collective modes and provide explicit expressions for all eigenvalues and eigenfunctions, which are valid for both BCS and BEC limits and also for the whole crossover regime. Both spherical- and axial-symmetric traps are taken into account, and the features of these collective modes in the BCS-BEC crossover are discussed and compared with available experimental and numerical data.

Core structure of two-dimensional Fermi gas vortices in the BEC-BCS crossover region

We report T = 0 diffusion Monte Carlo results for the ground-state and vortex excitation of unpolarized spin-1/2 fermions in a two-dimensional disk. We investigate how vortex core structure properties behave over the BEC-BCS crossover. We calculate the vortex excitation energy, density pro les, and vortex core properties related to the current. We nd a density suppression at the vortex core on the BCS side of the crossover and a depleted core on the BEC limit. Size-effect dependencies in the disk geometry were carefully studied.
