By zero field muon spin rotation we studied the antiferromagnetic correlations in the single layer system La{sub 2{minus}x}Sr {sub x}CuO{sub 4} and the bilayer system Y{sub 1{minus}x}Ca {sub x}Ba{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 6} . We observe a common phase diagram as a function of hole doping per plane with two distinct transitions in the magnetic ground state. The first transition marks the border between the 3D antiferromagnetic state and a disordered state with short ranged correlations. Muon-spin-rotation measurements in infinite-layer and infinite-chain cuprate antiferromagnets: Ca[sub 0. 86]Sr[sub 0. 14]CuO[sub 2] and Sr[sub 2]CuO[sub 3]

We have performed zero-field muon-spin-rotation [mu]Sr measurements of the infinite-layer'' cuprate compound Ca[sub 0.86]Sr[sub 0.14]CuO[sub 2] and the infinite chain'' system Sr[sub 2]CuO[sub 3]. A spontaneous magnetic field from the ordered Cu moments is observed below [ital T][sub [ital N]]=540[plus minus]5 K in Ca[sub 0.86]Sr[sub 0.14]CuO[sub 2]: below [ital T]=360 K, we observe muon-spin precession with a frequency [nu]([ital T][r arrow]0=16) MHz (corresponding to a local field of 1.2 kG). Phase equilibria study of the system NaV sub 2 O sub 5 -V sub 2 O sub 3 -V sub 2 O sub 5 at 923 K

The phase diagram of the system NaV{sub 2}O{sub 5}-V{sub 2}O{sub 3}-V{sub 2}O{sub 5} at 923 K was established. Two new phases, {delta}-Na{sub x}V{sub 2}O{sub 5} (0.55 {le} x {le} 0.57) and Na{sub x}V{sub 12}O{sub 29} (0.55 {le} x {le} 0.65), were found. The {delta}-Na{sub x}V{sub 2}O{sub 5} is hygroscopic and isostructural with {delta}-Ag{sub x}V{sub 2}O{sub 5}. The Na{sub x}V{sub 12}O{sub 29} is a member of a homologous series of compounds M{sub x}V{sub 6n}O{sub 15n-m} found also for M = Li or Cu. The dc conductivity of a single crystal of NaV{sub 6}O{sub 11} was measured at 5-298 K.

Electron spin resonance in the spin-Peierls compound NaV{sub 2}O{sub 5}

Single crystals of the spin-Peierls compound NaV{sub 2}O{sub 5} were synthesized. Both magnetic susceptibility and the electron-spin-resonance (ESR) intensity measured at 36.2 GHz showed an abrupt decrease at 35 K, indicating transition into the dimerized state. This decrease was much more pronounced for the ESR intensity as compared with the static susceptibility. The temperature dependences of the static and dynamic susceptibilities correspond to an energy gap of 92 K in the magnetic excitation spectrum. Muon-spin-rotation measurements have been used to determine the magnetic field penetration depth lambda as a function of temperature T in superconducting, sintered EuBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub x/(xapprox. =7). The extrapolated value at 0 K, lambda(0), is 1700 A. The temperature dependence of lambda(T) in the interval 3.5 K to T/sub c/ is well described by the phenomenological relation lambda(T) = lambda(0)(1-(T/T/sub c/)/sup 4/)/sup -1/2/. For T
