The ice nucleation spectrometer (INS) is an offline analytical measurement system used to process filter samples for freezing temperature spectra of immersion-mode ice-nucleating particle (INP) number concentrations. It is almost identical to the Colorado State University (CSU) ice spectrometer design. Filter samples are collected at ARM facilities routinely and during intensive operational periods, and on the ARM tethered balloon system operated by Sandia National Laboratories, then processed on the INS at CSU. Size-resolved ice nucleating particle (INP) concentrations from the MOSAiC campaign

Sample collection: Ground-based immersion mode ice nucleation measurements were conducted on samples collected at the U.S. DOE ARM AMF2 onboard the R/V Polarstern P-deck during MOSAiC from 23 Oct 2019 to 01 Oct 2020. Samples were collected using a Davis Rotating-drum Unit for Monitoring (DRUM; DRUMAir, LLC) cascading impactor in 4 stages (i.e., size bins). Instrument information on the model used, the DA400, can be found at the DRUMAir website (http://www.drumair.com/). This data set comprises cumulative ambient ice-nucleating particle (INP) concentrations measured at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA’s) Barrow Atmospheric Baseline Observatory (71.3230° N, 156.6114° W, “BRW” hereafter), next to the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) North Slope of Alaska (NSA) site and ~ 6 km northeast of the town of Utqiaġvik.
