Abstract

This is the first dataset submission of ongoing measurements of sap flow, soil water content, and leaf surface temperature at San Lorenzo, Panama starting in 2015. The files include raw data output from data loggers, as well as files compiling some of the raw data together into single files.

This data package contains sap flow data from the NGEE Tropics site in San Lorenzo, Panama (PA-SLZ) from 22 January 2019 to 31 December 2019. Sap flow measurements quantify plant-level transpiration, which varies across spatial and temporal scales. It is a key trait in understanding plant hydraulic functioning. Here sap flow was measured using ‘Granier-type’ thermal dissipation probes. Raw data downloaded from each data logger are in the 'Raw data' folder as CSV files, along with the Campbell data logger programs which can be read when opened with a text editor. This dataset contains carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen content measurements of sunlit canopy leaves of Apeiba membranacea (APEIME), Guatteria dumetorum (GUATDU), Miconia borealis (MICOBO), Terminalia amazonia (TERMAM), Virola multiflora (VIROSP) and Vochysia ferruginea (VOCHFE) species. Data was collected from the NGEE-Tropics Bosque Protector San Lorenzo (PA-SLZ) site in Panama in February of 2017 as part of the 2017 Brookhaven National Lab–Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute leaf traits by age campaign. Leaf water potential measured on young, mature and old leaves collected before dawn and around midday on 21 Feb and 22 Feb. This data was collected as part of the 2017 BNL–STRI leaf traits by age campaign.
