SNL-6 and SNL-6A were drilled in the southeast quarter of section 7, T21S, R32E, in western Lea County, NM. This location places the drillholes north-northeast of the WIPP site. An original drillhole (now designated SNL-6A) on the wellpad could not be completed and was plugged and abandoned. A second well (known as SNL-6) was drilled and completed on the same wellpad, and it is monitored for water levels. The focus of this report is the completed well (SNL-6), with reference as appropriate to geologic and other data from SNL.6A. Appendix material will be referred to in the text for details of drilling, logging, and plugging and abandoning of SNL-6A. SNL-6 is located 1,847 ft from the south line (fsl) and 1,413 ft from the east line (fel) of the section. SNL-6 was begun on August 23, 2005, and was completed September 10, 2005. SNL-6 is used to monitor groundwater levels of the Culebra Dolomite Member of the Permian Rustler Formation for WIPP in an area of low transmissivity and near the northeastern corner of the hydrological modeling domain. SNL-6 was permitted by the NM State Engineer as C-3151. Official correspondence regarding permitting and regulatory information must reference this permit number. Most drillholes at WIPP have been described after completion to provide an account of the geologic, hydrologic, or other basic data acquired during drilling and immediate completion of the drillhole. In addition, the basic data report provides an account of the drilling procedures and activities that may be helpful to later interpretations of data or for further work in the drillhole, including test activities and eventual plugging and abandoning activities. The basic data report also provides a convenient means of reporting information about administrative activities necessary to drill the hole.
