Maintenance is key to competitiveness and reliability
Good maintenance of power delivery systems is essential to customer satisfaction in the new competitive arena. Customers will be looking for competitively priced electricity that is safe and reliable. But, there are no standardized assessment and inspection procedures. Not all utilities have the personnel for in-house inspections and will use inspection services. One deficiency found fairly often is inadequate lightning protection and grounding systems. An electrical system is a complex and sensitive combination of electronics, instrumentation, process control, data processing, communications systems and electrical equipment. The use of robotics in power delivery system maintenance is relatively new in North America. Today`s demand for high quality and continuous service to a wide variety of customer needs and future expectations have already provided the road map for utility telerobotics.
