The concept of reliability has been known and used for many years. Quantitative reliability evaluation using probabilistic techniques is widely accepted for evaluating installed generating capacity adequacy in planning power systems. A unit addition algorithm has been developed for generation system reliability evaluation. In this paper, the uncertainties involved in parameters such as failure rates and repair rates of generating units and the system load are represented as fuzzy data. The algorithm computes reliability indices such as Loss Of Load Probability (LOLP) and the Expected Unserved Energy (EUE). The application of this method is presented using an example.
