This article is a review of some of the outfall from the Kobe earthquake in January 1995 and the application to North America. Based on a report by EQE International, it is concluded that regions of North America and elsewhere are more vulnerable to earth quakes than previously thought. Special attention is paid to the design review and testing for innovative steel frames, a type seriously damged in the Kobe quake.
