The Condensed-Matter and Materials Physics (CMMP) 2010 committee was formed to articulate an outlook for the field of condensed-matter and materials physics, concentrating on the compelling scientific themes. The committee met four times over the course of the study to gather information, reach consensus, and develop the report. An interim report detailing eight challenges for CMMP researchers was prepared and released on September 14, 2006. The committee held six town halls at professional society meetings and eight informal focus group sessions at research institutions to gather input from the science community. A workshop on facility needs for CMMP was held on January 28-29, 2007 to identify priorities for construction, purchase, and operation of facilities. The committee released its final report in unedited, prepublication form on June 14, 2007.
