Journal Article · · Materials Performance

A primary concern of contractors and owners dealing with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Lead Exposure in Construction regulation is ensuring that they meet the administration`s rules for worker training, which can be divided into two major types: general worker training and competent person training. This month`s column briefly reviews what OSHA requires in general worker training (that is, training of workers who perform lead paint abatement tasks but have few or no hazard-identification or supervisory responsibilities). It also outlines several factors employers must consider when deciding how to implement that training.
