Hazwoper, the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (29 CFR 1910.120) rule outlines what the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) expects a hazardous waste operation to include in its health and safety program. The rule presented the bare-bone elements of training employees to work at hazardous waste sites (1910.120e); treatment, storage and disposal facilities (TSDFs) (1910.120p); and spill emergency responses (1910.120q). Workers at hazardous waste sites must be taught, for instance, how to use personal protective equipment and recognize overexposure symptoms. Because every hazardous waste operation is unique, employers generally use such general requirements as a starting point to develop their course contents.
