Calculations of reactivity perturbations using correlated sampling Monte Carlo
Correlated sampling Monte Carlo is a well-known method for calculating reactivity effects due to small perturbmions in cross sections. For small perturbations a directly correlated simulation is necessary between the unperturbed and Penurbed eigenvalue calculations. Differencing the eigenvalues of two independent (unperturbed and perturbed) Monte Carlo runs tends to show infinite variance as the perturbation decreases. In Monte Carlo reactivity calculation, correlated sampling has been applied along with the fission matrix approach to determine the unperturbed and perturbed fission matrices. The difference of the dominant eigenvalues of these two matrices gives the reactivity due to perturbation in the system.
