In Japan, all of steam generator (SG) tubings in Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) plants have been inspected by the regulatory authorities at every outage, using eddy-current testing (ECT). Here, calculation and experimental results are presented for eddy-current NDE (nondestructive examination) problems with Inconel 600 plate specimens. A circular air-cored coil is scanned along the length of rectangular slots with inner and outer opening. The flaw impedance trajectory is computed by using a finite element scheme that evaluates directly the perturbation of the electromagnetic field due to the flaw. The agreement is within the range of the experimental error.
