A Study of B+ to ppbarK+ and a Search for the Theta*++ Pentaquark Candidate in B Decay

A study of the decay B{sup +} {yields} p{bar p}K{sup +} is performed using 81 fb{sup -1} of data collected at the {Upsilon}(4S) with the BABAR detector at PEP-II. The branching fraction of B{sup +} {yields} p{bar p}K{sup +} is measured to be (6.7 {+-} 0.9 {+-} 0.6) x 10{sup -6}. An upper limit on the branching fraction of B{sup +} {yields} {Theta}*{sup 2} {bar p}, where {Theta}*{sup 2} is a narrow state decaying to pK{sup +}, is set to be 1.5 x 10{sup -7} for 1.43 < m({Theta}*{sup 2}) < 1.85 GeV/c{sup 2} at 90% confidence level. All results are preliminary.
