  1. Wright Killen and Co., Houston, TX (United States)
As a result of continued base lube capacity rationalization and world economic recovery, Wright Killen and Co., a Houston-based consulting firm, expects increased tightness in base lube supply through the year 2000. The majority of base lube demand growth will be in the developing countries of South America, the Asia/Pacific region, the Middle East, and Africa. Announced and planned base lube capacity additions exceed 75,000 b/d. In the long term (beyond 2000), traditional petroleum base lube processing technology is threatened by high-performance synthetic oils, biodegradable natural oils, low-cost re-refined oils, and severe hydrocracking technology. Supply and demand are discussed on a regional basis.
