Estimation and interpretation of k{sub eff} confidence intervals in MCNP

Journal Article · · Transactions of the American Nuclear Society
OSTI ID:75960
In criticality calculations, MCNP has three types of indeividual l{sub eff}. The three-combined k{sub eff} estimator has been derived and verified, both theoretically and empirically (for the cases studied), to be the best available estimator in MCNP. It has been shown to be superior to other estimators, such as the simple average and the individual estimator, with the smallest variance. The three-combined k{sub eff} estimator should be presented as a confidence interval, which has been shown to have the correct coverage rates for several realistic problems.
