Design features of Mt. Elbert Pumped-Storage Powerplant

This paper describes the electrical design features of the Mt. Elbert Pumped-Storage Power plant, with emphasis on the use of a static starting method for starting the unit in the motor direction. A wound-rotor induction motor was originally specified for starting purposes but the static starting method was considered to be a more advantageous and more economical solution.
