Static starting system replacement at Mt. Elbert Pumped Storage Powerplant

This paper described the replacement of a static starting system at the US Bureau of Reclamation`s Mt. Elbert Pumped Storage Powerplant, near Leadville, Colorado. Problems with the previous static starter are described and design criteria for the replacement system are discussed. Installation issues and testing experience are included. Operating experience, training, and manufacturer`s support are also discussed.
