Magnetic susceptibility of rare earth titanotantalates. [Magnetic susceptibility of RE TiTaO/sub 6/ (RE = Ce to Yb)]

Journal Article · · Inorg. Mater. (USSR) (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:7361624
With the exception of YTiTaO/sub 6/, LaTiTaO/sub 6/, and LuTiTaO/sub 6/, rare earth titanotantalates are paramagnetic at 78-293/sup 0/K. With the exception of SmTiTaO/sub 6/, the magnetic susceptibilities of these compounds vary with temperature by Curie-Weiss law (by the Curie law in the case of GdTiTaO/sub 6/). The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility of SmTiTaO/sub 6/ is satisfactorily represented by the Van Vleck equation, the first excited level of Sm/sup 3 +/ being taken into account.
