Spin and parity assignments in /sup 38/K via the (d,. cap alpha. ) reaction near 0/sup 0/. [J,. pi. ]

The tensor analyzing power, T/sup 20/, is measured at theta = 3/sup 0/ in the /sup 40/Ca(d, ..cap alpha..)/sup 38/K reaction at beam energies of 7.5, 7.75, and 8.0 MeV. Assignments of a natural or unnatural parity are made for states in /sup 38/K from 1698 to 3978 keV and in several cases, spin and/or parity assignments are deduced. In particular assignments of 3/sup -/, (2, 4)/sup -/, 2/sup -/, (2/sup -/, 3/sup +/), 2/sup -/, 1/sup +/, and 1/sup +/ are made to the 2613, 2647, 2870, 3317, 3815, 3857, and 3978 keV states, respectively.
