The K-shell ionization cross sections for alpha particle over the energy range 1.8 to 5 MeV have been measured on thick targets of the elements Ti, V, Fe, and Cu using a Si(Li) x-ray detector. Po-210 was used as a source of alpha particles. It emits alpha particles of energy 5.3 MeV. An energy range of 1.8 to 5 MeV was obtained by using suitable absorbers. The total x-ray and ionization cross section for K-shell are measured. The experimental values of ionization cross section are compared to the predictions of the corrected plane wave Born Approximation, the Semi-Classical Approximation and the Binary Encounter Approximation.
