Oil-producing countries, oil companies, and major consuming countries have been only interested in their own efforts and interests too long, the author states. He submits that the actions taken by producer countries with regard to oil, as well as of other primary products and raw materials, is more in harmony with the interests of mankind than have been the efforts of the major oil-producing companies and consumer countries. The 1973 oil crisis focused the attention of the world on the fact that oil was being consumed at an alarming rate, far beyond the levels that the remaining reserves of the world could warrant and sustain. The OPEC countries also became aware that their nonrenewable resource had been mainly exploited to the advantage of the consumer and was rapidly depleting. The resulting price increase will lengthen the time during which oil will be available to future generations, stimulate conservation, and will stimulate the development of alternate energy sources. The financial sources accruing from oil exports has now rightfully gone to the legal owners of the oil. (MCW)
