Tentative method of test for radioactive nickel in water

A ..beta.. scintillation method is described for the determination of /sup 63/Ni in water in concentrations above 30 pCi/l. The radioactive Ni along with added Ni is separated from most of the interfering impurities by using Fe(OH)/sub 3/ as a scavenger. A gravimetric precipitation of nickel dimethylglyoxime is used to measure the chemical yield of the process. The ..beta.. activity of the purified Ni solution is counted with a liquid scintillation counter. The standard deviation of the method is approximately2 percent. (BLM)
