The final connection of two sections of British Petroleum's 32-in. underwater pipeline from the Forties Field to Cruden Bay was made by raising the two ends of the pipes to the surface, clamping them to the side of the barge, and welding them. The completed line was then lowered to the seabed. The design approach, a log of events for the actual operation, and a discussion of the merits of the method are presented. (LK)
