Dissolution of oxides of uranium in sodium carbonate solutions

The kinetics of the dissolution of UO/sub 2/ and U/sub 3/O/sub 8/ was studied in a sodium carbonate solution at a ratio of Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ and NaHCO/sub 3/ equal to 4:3. It was shown that the rate of dissolution increases linearly with increasing amounts of the oxide and carbonate ion concentration. The values of the rate constant of dissolution at 25/sup 0/C were 4.1 x 10/sup -8/ and 1.2 x 10/sup -7/ (s . mole/sup 2/)/sup -1/ for UO/sub 2/ and U/sub 3/O/sub 8/, respectively.
