Standard method for collection and analysis of dustfall (settleable particulates)

A procedure is described for the field collection of particulates settling from the atmosphere and for preliminary characterization of the sample matter. Open-top collectors of a specified size and shape are located carefully outdoors to provide samples that are representative of the area being studied. Collected material is transported to the laboratory in a closed container for weighing and analysis. Procedures are described for the determination of pH, total weight of settleable particulates, total water and benzene solubles, and total combustible and noncombustible matter. (BLM)
