Type of hydromagnetic waves of finite amplitude in magnetohydrodynamics with anistropic pressure

A type of hydromagnetic wave of finite amplitude is apparently possible in magnetohydrodynamics with anisotropic pressure. This type of wave differs from the known types particularly by the unusual behavior of the magnetic field, whose component tangential to the front H/sub tau/ changes in magnitude and direction during the passage of a wave. This type of wave must correspond within strong discontinuities to the known anisotropic rotational shock waves, identified from experimental data in the interplanetary medium and at the magnetopause. Some formal reasons in favor of their existence that follow, in particular, from the hydrodynamic system of equations are given. (auth)
