The nuclear electric quadrupole hyperfine structures in the microwave rotational absorption spectra of C /sup 35/Cl/sub 2/F/sub 2/ and C /sup 35/Cl /sup 37/ClF/sub 2/ have been investigated. The quadrupole coupling constants of /sup 35/Cl in C /sup 35/Cl/sub 2/F/sub 2/ have been found to be (in MHz) chi/sub a//sub a/=-43.42 +- 0.16, chi/sub b//sub b/=4.70 +- 0.20, chi/sub c//sub c/=38.71 +- 0.22. Measurements of hyperfine spectra for C /sup 35/Cl /sup 37/ClF/sub 2/ agree with the ratio Q/sub 37//Q/sub 35/=0.788. The second-order perturbation has been used to determine the off-diagonal element chi/sub a//sub b/, which has been found to be -56 +- 4 MHz. (AIP)
