Development of glasses for application as laser fusion targets
The development of laser fusion is highly dependent upon the concurrent development of suitable DT-filled targets. Current programs use hollow glass microspheres as containers for DT gas. The present study was to develop improved materials for the production of these glass microspheres. Results of this study indicate that lithium aluminoborate, aluminosilicate, and borosilicate glasses (in that order of preference) may be used for such applications.
