Trends in concentrations of benzene soluble suspended particulate fraction and benzo(a)pyrene

Journal Article · · J. Air Pollut. Control Assoc.; (United States)
The National Air Surveillance Network monitored trends in concentrations of benzene-soluble organics (BSO) and benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) from 1960 to 1970. The data show a general decrease in the urban concentrations of both pollutants. Trends in coal consumed in residential areas parallels the decline of these pollutants which suggests this is the single greatest factor leading to the downward trend. Another factor which has likely contributed to this downward trend has been the enforcement of regulations to control smoke emissions in most large metropolitan areas. (PAG)
