Methods for radiochemical or activation analysis for radioactive components of the human environment are discussed in this book. A very short introductory chapter and lengthy chapters on each type of analysis make up the book. The chapter on radiochemical analysis deals with the occurrence of radionuclides in the environment, sample preparation for radiochemical analysis of natural materials (air, water, soil, and plant and animal tissues), and methods and examples of analysis. A survey of activation analysis is presented; theoretical principles of the method, as well as its experimental use, are introduced; and working procedures from the sample and standard preparation through chemical processing of the sample and nondestructive analysis to the evaluation of results are explained. Some selected examples of activation analysis in different branches of science and technology are included. (BLM)
