The Institute for Energy Studies is designed to stimulate, facilitate, and promote the development of research and academic programs in energy within existing Schools in the University. The main areas of activity of the Institute are: Energy Information Center; Seminar Program; Interdisciplinary Student-Faculty Studies; Research Initiation; Workshops; Analysis for Public Action; Visiting Professor Program; and Fellowship Program. A major emphasis was placed in 1974-1975 on bringing more of Stanford's great strengths in the policy area to bear on energy problems. A Stanford energy modeling program (PILOT) and a Stanford Western Energy Policy Study (SWEPS) have been initiated. (MCW)
