Portable mine dust concentration instrument

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7318501
To improve health and safety conditions, there is need for a portable instrument that mine inspectors can use routinely for rapidly checking concentrations of dust in mine atmospheres. The objective of the study was to build, calibrate, and evaluate two prototype instruments. The emphasis was on certain minimum standards of size, weight, response time, sensitivity, ruggedness, reproducibility, permissibility, and cost (ultimate). The initial phase of the work was aimed at developing and proving performance of the amplifier components and circuits to be used in the final instrument. The second phase concerned the building, calibration, and evaluation of the two instruments. The third phase was concerned with research on the aerosol testing system to resolve certain sampling problems. (Modified author abstract) (GRA)
