Portable mine dust concentration instrument. Final report, 10 May 1971--27 June 1972

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7096766
A prototype portable coal dust concentration instrument was developed based upon forward low-angle light scattering. The unit weighs 7 pounds and has a response time of 10 seconds. Readout can be set for 1, 10, 100, 1000, or 10,000 mg/cu m. The calibration factor is affected by the properties of the dust being sampled. To improve health and safety conditions, there is need for a portable instrument that mine inspectors can use routinely for rapidly checking concentration of dust in mine atmospheres. (Author) (GRA)
