Optimization of TATB processing
The processes developed by Mason and Hanger for the pilot scale production of 1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB) are described. 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene (TCB) was nitrated to form 1,3,5-trichloro-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene and then aminated to form TATB. The effects of several critical variables, the process procedures, and the equipment are discussed.
