Review and analysis of state-of-the-art of multiphase pump technology. Technical Report No. 1

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7313549
The technologies which bear upon the fluid dynamic understanding of multiphase flow pump behavior are reviewed. The following topics are discussed: pump flow physics, scale modeling of pump single-phase and two-phase operation, existing, empirical two-phase pump data, piping network flow regime characteristics, and unsteady and oscillatory pump/loop system characteristics. Emphasis is placed on the development of an understanding of two-phase pump behavior to determine the adequacy of scale model tests (both steady-state and transient) to predict full-size, primary coolant pump LOCA characteristics. Emphasis is also placed on the requirements for adequate LOCA code development. (GRA)
