Use of a Distributed Control System (DCS) for controlling cogeneration, refuse-burning, and other industrial plants has become standard industry practice in recent years. DCS's, originally designed to accommodate large facilities such as refineries, petrochemical, and power plants, are now available in small enough sizes and with low enough costs to justify their use in most industrial plants. This paper addresses the application of DCS's to industrial refuse-burning (waste-to-energy) plants designed by Ogden Martin System, Inc. (Ogden Martin), using the proprietary martin GmbH technology.
