Possible mechanisms are discussed for the conversions of carbon dioxide and monoxide under conditions for the synthesis of methanol from carbon dioxide and hydrogen on an SNM-1 catalyst. Based on an analysis of the kinetic data the set of reactions occurring in the system at 170-260/sup 0/C and 50 atm are given. The reactions for CO/sub 2/ reduction into carbon monoxide and methanol do not have common steps.
