Performance characteristics of the Sandia atomic iodine laser (SAIL-1)

Results needed to evaluate the atomic iodine laser as a candidate for laser fusion applications are presented. Oscillator performance and reliability, temporal pulse distortion and beam quality of amplified pulses, energy extraction efficiency and overall efficiency are discussed.
