Interim report on the Nd:YAG/glass laser system for the SLL Combustion Research Facility

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6624720
As a first step toward the development of a state-of-the-art frequency-doubled Nd:YAG/glass laser system for the SLL Combustion Research Facility, a preliminary study has been conducted to design a suitable laser oscillator/amplifier capable of meeting the particular requirements for pulsed Raman measurements. The report summarizes the performance of several Nd:YAG oscillator/amplifier designs and reports the successful reduction and/or elimination of relaxation oscillations in the long-pulse operation of these lasers. Experimental measurements of the laser beam quality (spatial and temporal) and the spectral bandwidth of the various oscillator designs were also made. Computer modeling of the spatial beam profile in the various cavity configurations has been used to determine the most stable cavity design for the oscillator.
