Periodic slow-wave structures for excitation of lower-hybrid waves

Numerical calculations are reported for the distribution of rf fields in an inhomogeneous, magnetized plasma through which a slow E wave propagates. An equation for the surface impedance of the plasma is used to solve for the characteristic modes which propagate between a corrugated metal surface and the plasma boundary. The results are used to find the parameters of the corrugated walls for plasma devices such that the excited surface wave is retarded enough to excite the lower hybrid resonance.
