Progress is reported on the following research projects: characterization of the III f granules of human neutrophil polymorphonuclear granulocytes (PMN); studies on glycosidases using methylumbelliferyl derivatives of the sugars with spectrofluorometry; distribution of proteinases and cationic proteins in human PMN; comparison of granules of eosinophils with those of other PMN; identification of a cyanide-resistant NADPH oxidase in PMN; subcellular localization of superoxide dismutase in PMN; oxygen-independent antimicrobial activities of each granule class; the phagocytic and intraleukocytic killing capacity of PMN deprived of their specific granules with phorbol myristate acetate; and studies on the PMN of an infant with the Chediak Higashi syndrome.
