Some experiments on the initiation of coal-dust explosions by gas explosions
Technical Report

OSTI ID:7307445
Preliminary tests were conducted at the Bureau's Experimental mine to determine, under conditions that may prevail in a bituminous coal-mine heading, how small a quantity of fire damp when ignited may bring coal dust into suspension and ignite it. Tests show that the explosion of as little as 150 cubic feet-of gas-air mixture containing 9 percent gas may start a disastrous explosion of coal dust.
