Method of increasing recovery of petroleum from subterranean formations

Patent ·
OSTI ID:7301313

A polymer slug followed by a surfactant slug or one slug containing both polymer and surfactant can be used in tertiary oil recovery. The polymer is 30% hydrolyzed polyacrylamide. Di-n-alkylbenzene sulfonate, neutralized with sodium hydroxide is the surfactant. The alkyl group contains 11 to 15 carbon atoms. Berea cores (permeability 150 to 200 md) were saturated with brine (5% sodium chloride), flooded with 80 pale oil, and waterflooded with brine. The combined slug contained polymer, surfactant and brine and was driven with brine recovering 18.4% PV of tertiary oil.
