Reevaluation of the Gottfried sum

We present a new determination of the nonsinglet structure function [ital F][sup [ital p]][sub 2] [minus] [ital F][sup [ital n]][sub 2] at [ital Q][sup 2]=4 GeV[sup 2] using recently measured values of [ital F][sup [ital d]][sub 2] and [ital F][sup [ital n]][sub 2]/[ital F][sup [ital p]][sub 2]. A new evaluation of the Gottfried sum is given, which remains below the simple quark-parton model value of 1/3.
