EPRI technical assessment workshop, Chicago, Illinois, September 28--29, 1976
Participants from the electric utility industry and from the Electric Power Research Institute staff discussed the analytic processes used by utilities when considering the introduction of new technologies on a power system. The workshop resulted in a better understanding by the participants of how EPRI might improve its methods and criteria for assessing the value of new technologies to the utility industry so that research priorities at EPRI can be set for the greatest benefit. The participants in the workshop were divided into three groups for detailed discussion, and a report on the deliberations of each group is included. The general subjects of the three groups were: R and D program evaluation procedures; economic assessment methods; and system analysis techniques. Each of these subjects was covered in detail and recommendations for appropriate EPRI approaches are included. This workshop is part of a continuing effort to maintain a dialog between the EPRI staff and the utility industry concerning the methods being used to analyze research priorities.
