This paper discusses the operating experience of a Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation Circulating Fluidized Bed boiler at Manitowoc Public Utilities, Wisconsin. The boiler is designed to fire a variety of fuels including 100% coal, 100% petroleum coke, and tire-derived-fuel (TDF) as a supplementary fuel. The optimization of the unit during the initial firing of petroleum coke and TDF, and long term observations are detailed in this paper.
