Extraction with organophosphorus acids. II. Complex formation of americium, curium, and californium in a two-phase system

It was found that several complex forms can exist at equilibrium in the organic phase. It was established that Am and Cm are extracted by 2EHPPA in the form of two equilibrium forms MA/sub 3/ . HA (60%) and MA/sub 3/ . 2HA (40%), where M is the metal ion and A is the anion of the organophosphorus acid, while Cf is extracted chiefly in the form of CfA/sub 3/ . HA. The extraction constant of the complex forms MA/sub 3/ . HA (log K/sub I//sub Am--Cm/ = 4.46 +- 0.18, log K/sub I//sub Cf/ = 6.03 +- 0.16 in the reaction with the monomer and log K/sub II//sub Am--Cm/ = 0.34 +- 0.18, log K/sub II//sub Cf/ = 2.00 +- 0.16 in the reaction with the dimer) and MA/sub 3/ . 2HA (log K/sub I//sub Am--Cm/ = 5.91 +- 0.18 in the reaction with the monomer and log K/sub II//sub Cf/ = 0.92 +- 0.18 in the reaction with the dimer) were calculated.
