The stimulated-emission cross section and nonradiative decay of the {sup 5}{ital L}{sub 6{prime}} state of trivalent americium in a fluorozirconate glass is analyzed as a function of temperature from 100 to 300 K. The emission cross section is calculated using the analysis of McCumber (D. E. McCumber, Phys. Rev. 134, A299 (1964)) and compared to the observed fluorescence spectrum. Nonradiative rates are determined from the observed lifetimes and the calculated radiative rates, and compared to those reported for lanthanide ions in similar hosts.
