The fluorescence spectrum of tripositive americium in a fluorozirconate glass at low temperature has been measured. Six fluorescence lines were observed between 515 to 880 nm and identified as Am{sup 3+} transitions. Fluorescence decay measurements at 15 K are reported for transitions that originate from states {sup 5}{ital D}{sub 1{prime}} ({approximately}1.0 ms) and {sup 5}{ital L}{sub 6{prime}} ({approximately}17 {mu}s). The {sup 5}{ital D}{sub 1{prime}} state was excited directly to produce fluorescence in order to confirm the assignment of the excited state.
